Mau Mara Serengeti Sustainable Water Initiative (MaMaSe)


The Initiative, which is financially supported by the Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi, consists of a broad-based, basin-scale public private partnership including international and Kenyan government agencies, civil society, private sector, NGOs, and knowledge institutions. The consortium is led by IHE Delft in close cooperation with WWF Kenya.

Additional core partners include: 

  • Water Resources Management Authority  (Kenyan public sector)
  • Regional Water Authority Brabantse Delta (Dutch public sector)
  • Mara Farming and HSBC Bank (international private sector)
  • SNV and GIZ (NGOs) 
  • Egerton University, ITC-University of Twente, and Wageningen UR (knowledge institutes)

Contributing partners include Kenyan (Kenya Water Towers Agency, Masai Mara University a local learning and capacity building institution the area), Dutch (Deltares, Regional Water Authority Noorderzijlvest, and Regional Water Authority Stichtse Rijnlanden), international (International Hydropower Association, Nile Basin Initiative-NELSAP, The Nature Conservancy) and inter-governmental (East African Community Lake Victoria Basin Commission) organizations.
